Denmark is for you,

if you like cracking nuts and cracking jokes

Making Danish friends can feel like cracking a coconut—hard on the outside, but once you’re in, you’re in for good. Danes may seem reserved at first glance, but don't mistake it for coldness. It’s just a different rhythm of social life. Danes tend to prioritise a few strong relationships over many casual ones.

So how do you get past the shell? Humor, hygge, and a bit of persistence. One well-timed “Skål!” over a cold beer can be the perfect icebreaker—and Danes will often open up in ways that surprise you. Expect sarcasm, dry wit, and a kind of humor that feels a little weird until it feels like home. If you're wondering how to make Danish friends, here’s the formula: invite them for a beer or coffee. Then do it again. And again. Suddenly, you're in the circle!

Just don’t expect spontaneous dinner invites. In Denmark, social life is often scheduled weeks in advance. But there's a shortcut: clubs and associations. Whether it's hiking, creative hobbies, board games or sports, shared interests offer a great path to make social connections happen. Before you know it, your calendar will be filled too!

Don't just take my word for it!
